For beginners, it can be a bit of nerve-racking for you to understand what is SEO. However, it can help your website to generate huge traffic once you’ve utilized it. Thus, I’m going to walk you through how to use SEO to increase traffic for your website.
What is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?
Before I start explaining what is SEO right away. Let’s watch this short video first!
In short, SEO is a process of optimizing your website in order to increase organic (unpaid) traffic on search engines like Google as it accounts for more than two-thirds of total traffic.
Why Should We Use SEO?
To be honest, I can think of a great many reasons why should you start using SEO. But here are the 3 most notable ones:
1. It’s FREE!
2. Research has shown that the top 3 ranked positions on Google will get more than 60% of traffic.
3. It helps your website gain authority on search engines.
How does SEO work?
Regarding SEO terms, you may have heard of these two terms, crawling and indexing.
Crawling is a process by which an Internet bot crawls your website and also the links contained on those pages and stores the data for search engines.
By creating sitemaps, the bots can look into your website easily since they include all the links on your website.
Indexing is a process by which Google indexes your website into Google search engines so that your site will show up when someone searches for content that is relevant to your site.
When it comes to optimizing your website, there are more than hundreds of factors determining whether your site is relevant to the Google algorithm or not. However, one of the most significant goals of this algorithm is to find the most relevant site for readers. In order for you to do that, I’ll cover the best ways to show Google that your website is applicable to the readers to boost your traffic.
1. Create High-Quality Content
Have you ever searched for information on Google and a website just shows up and answers all your queries clearly and thoroughly?
This is what we called high-quality content and there are some major components in creating this content.
2. Keyword in the Title
For those who don’t know what keyword is, it is a word or a phrase that people search for on search engines.
The keyword should be found within your title because it is the easiest way for Google to identify the keyword of your content.
3. Place the Title in the First Paragraph
Place the exact keyword within the first paragraph, which is also a great way for Google to recognize the keyword.
4. Use Relevant and Captivating Headlines
Before you write the upcoming sections, use some captivating headlines to tell people what you are going to talk about briefly as well as attracting their attention.
5. Write The Content Naturally
Remember, you are writing for people, not for Google. Don’t overthink the process. Just focus on engaging with people and write relevant content as if you’re talking to your friends.
6. Don’t Use Keywords Excessively
All Google searches for are relevant, informative and high-quality content. You only need to write surrounding the keywords rather than stuffing them excessively within your content.
7. Use quality links
Linking your content to quality, trustworthy sites can help your website to gain authority on search engines.
8. Eliminate Grammatical Mistakes
Having grammatical mistakes within your content is not professional. One great way to eliminate this problem is by using grammar checking tools, like Grammarly. You can also find other tools by simply typing “grammar check” on Google.
There are two things matter when it comes to doing a proper keyword research:
This is the amount of times people search for the particular keyword on Google or other search engines, which is the estimated traffic you are expected to receive.
Keywords with higher estimated traffic tend to have a keener competition, meaning that it’s more difficult to rank high.
So, it is important for you to strike a balance between decent traffic and relatively low competition.
Although Search engine optimization can be competitive, it is still hands down the most effective way to drive sustainable traffic to your website for FREE.
Over time this process will help you build up authority in your niche and generate increasingly traffic as long as you’re consistent with SEO.
